spring awakenings

melodious mornings
a symphony of happy birds!
a feast for my ears, and eyes
gobbling wild turkeys
hammering woodpeckers
a cacophony of calls from the california quail
red tailed hawks circling, above it all
indifferent to their cousins Mother Nature painted
brown, black, yellow, yellower, blue, bluer...
the virtuoso, in my amateur opinion
is the tiniest of musicians
his whispery clicking almost insect-like
his flight almost electric
and when the sunlight catches his throat or head just right...
a flash of fiery red!
the hummingbird’s climactic reminder to me

what a MAGICAL world we live in
